Buying & Riding A Motorcycle In South East Asia

Our trip to Austin has been successful! Mango and Opi have had a great time together, we have had a wonderful visit with our friend Nadia, and we finally released Buying and Riding a Motorcycle in South East Asia! It is now available on Amazon and Smashwords!

The blurb:

When it comes to riding Southeast Asia the big question is not “should I buy or should I rent” but rather “where do I even start?” The authors were confronted with just this question as they attempted to plan a motorcycle trip throughout Thailand, Malaysia, Cambodia & Laos. Every answer they found was different. So they decided to write this handbook as a guide for other new riders in the region.

Mid-way through a world trip by motorcycle the authors found themselves in Thailand without bikes. Neither Thailand nor the motorcycle-less aspect was planned and they had to find information on travel by motorcycle in Southeast Asia fast. Every piece of information they were given contradicted the previous. In the end they bought motorcycles in Malaysia and spent six months riding throughout the region.

This handbook is all the information they wish someone had complied for them before they left. It covers how and where to buy bikes, if you should rent or buy, road rules and importation, as well as safety aspects of riding and camping.

    Hi Sherrie and Patrick,
I bought your e-books and I really like them!
Question: you seem to be quite partial about the Moscoots. If you had to do it again, would you skip the Beemers for the trip from Germany to Mongolia and travel by Moscoots instead?

      Hi Pete3,
glad to hear that you like our books 🙂
I think the Moscoots were perfect for South East Asia. Its hard to get more value for your money otherwise. Having said that its a LONG ride through Russia. Definitely more comfortable on the F650. Although many people will probably argue that they are too small bikes 😉
So our answer is a definite yeno. Or to put it another way: It depends (as always). On the budget, the time scale, the route…
Having our time back we would probably do it the same as we did.
      Cheers from Newfoundland
      Patrick
